Mace Braxton

I had a really cool experience as a young child: my father took me to see an open heart surgery.

One of the doctors there was so charming, handsome, and kind. His name was Mace Braxton, and he let me watch up close as he removed a vein from the patient's leg in order to put it in his heart.

It's one of those days in my life that I will never forget, and Dr. Braxton was a part of it. He died last week of liver failure.

My heart goes out to his wife, Shirley, as well as the rest of his family and friends that are mourning for him.

Mace Braxton was a one-of-a-kind guy. I'm devastated by his sudden departure. He was more of a brother and friend and I'm going to miss his laughter.

There is a gaping hole in my heart....in the heart of this world without him.

I never met Mr. Braxton, but I'm sure my dad knows of him, seeing as my dad has lived in Salina for many years. I too lived in Salina for many years, but never had the pleasure of meeting such a wonderful man, from what I hear. Rest easy Mace Braxton, God bless.

I feel so honored to have known Dr. Braxton the past 8 years of my life. The 1st time I met him was after he performed bypass surgery on my Grandfather in 2000. Little did I know that 5 years later I would be working beside him as a nurse on the cardiac floor, taking care of his patients, whom he had just performed a miracle on. He was an amazing surgeon, truly one-of-a-kind. There will be a tremendous void in the hospital now that he is gone.

I was also privileged to know him on a more social level too. The past 4 years we would see each other at the friday night football games, whether at home or when they were on the road. He always had a huge smile on his face while watching his 2 sons play on the field. His youngest son, Andrew, will graduate this May, and he had an amazing football season last fall. I know that Dr. Braxton will truly happy during those games, and I hope his son will always cherish those times with his dad.

I will miss him greatly, I have cried many tears the past week when I've been in the company of nurses' and sharing our stories.

Thank you for remembering him.
